Warsaw’s Siekierki district is coming to life


Until recently, the Vistula riverside part of Warsaw’s Mokotów district was a particularly underdeveloped area. Today, Siekierki is undergoing a significant transformation. The development of cultural and recreational offerings, along with increasingly better transportation links, makes this place especially attractive for living. And this is only the beginning of its evolution.

For many years, Warsaw’s Siekierki was a quiet, agricultural and gardening settlement. Only after World War II did ambitious urban concepts emerge, aiming to give this part of the city a completely new character. In the 1970s and 1980s, there were considerations to create an “Olympic village” here, followed by a national park. Although these plans remained on paper, the area’s potential was already recognized. Today, Siekierki is fully realizing this potential, making more and more people want to move here.

The green oasis of the capital

Siekierki is the green heart of Warsaw and one of the most interesting natural areas in the capital. Located right on the Vistula River, with parts protected under the Natura 2000 program, it offers residents direct access to exceptional nature. Expansive green areas, wild enclaves, and various recreational paths create ideal conditions for walking, jogging, cycling, or simply relaxing. The greenery effectively shields from noise — allowing for an escape from the city buzz while still keeping the metropolis center within easy reach.

Nearby is also Lake Czerniakowskie, the largest natural water body in Warsaw, protected as a nature reserve. It features a seasonal swimming area with piers and a wild beach, attracting residents throughout the year.

In Siekierki, the green surroundings and history go hand in hand with everyday convenience. A symbol of this combination is Park AK “Burza,” repeatedly awarded, including with the European Prize for Urban Public Space. It is a recreational area that combines a leisure function with a memorial role. Within it are the Warsaw Uprising Mound with a viewing platform, an educational trail dedicated to history and nature, as well as attractively arranged spaces for children and dog runs.

Everything at your fingertips

Siekierki residents have everything they need daily — from local shops, bakeries, and cafés to gyms and the popular “Bazarek pod Kopcem” market. Nearby are also chain stores — Biedronka, K&M, and Castorama.

Siekierki also has a vibrant cultural life. The local activity center is Dom Kultury Dorożkarnia, where children, teenagers, and adults can develop their passions under the guidance of experienced animators and artists. It’s a space for building relationships, creativity, and collective action — with respect for local traditions and community spirit.

Also active here is the BO WARTO Foundation, which for years has been creating opportunities for meetings and celebrations. It organizes exhibitions, concerts, performances, festivals, and workshops. Its flagship events, such as the Siekierki Festival and the Siekierki May Picnic, have become permanent fixtures in the local calendar. The foundation also publishes a free monthly newspaper — Gazeta Siekierkowska, which serves as a source of local information.

Siekierki can also boast a well-developed educational offering — with public, Catholic schools, and kindergartens operating nearby. A noteworthy point is the PAS Astronomical Center, which promotes science among residents. The institution regularly organizes popular science lectures for the general public and astronomy meetings.

An important advantage of Siekierki is its excellent connectivity with the rest of the city. Tram line 11 provides quick access to the center, Gagarina Street, as well as Wola and Bemowo. Siekierki also boasts an extensive bus network, covering as many as seven lines. Convenient access is ensured by main streets: Bartycka and Bluszczańska.

Further transportation investments are also planned, including a new tram line on Aleja Polski Walczącej, which would end at the EC Siekierki terminus. The concept is being prepared by Tramwaje Warszawskie. In 2026–27, Bartycka Street will also undergo reconstruction. The project has been included in Warsaw’s Long-Term Financial Forecast.

Meanwhile, the reconstruction of Bluszczańska Street, on the section between Piniowa and Kątna, will be completed by the end of June 2025.

Even more changes

The city authorities of Warsaw also plan further development of social infrastructure. There are plans to modernize Park AK “Burza,” which includes the expansion of the main recreational meadow. The design documentation is to be completed by February 2027. Although the current scope does not include a sports section (courts, fields), this topic may return at a later planning stage.

With the growing number of families in Siekierki, the construction of a new primary school is also being considered. For now, the city owns only half of the needed land. The investment cannot start before acquiring the remaining plots.

In the longer term, there are plans for the construction of a pedestrian and bicycle bridge from Rodzynkowa to Afrykańska Street, which would connect Siekierki with Saska Kępa, as well as the development of water transport around the Siekierkowski Bridge. The concept includes creating a transshipment point, which may influence the development of logistics infrastructure in southern Warsaw.

An address for years

The acceleration of investment processes in Siekierki encourages developers to invest in this area.

SGI is one of the companies particularly involved in the development of this part of Warsaw. The developer’s first completed project in this part of the city is Bluszczańska III. It consists of a set of intimate, two-story buildings inspired by the style of elegant urban villas.

Additionally, the Ananasowa estate is under construction, which will include five buildings with 127 apartments ranging from 47 to 121 sqm.

The boutique Tarasy II estate on Batalionu AK “Ryś” Street is also under development. It will offer 45 apartments ranging from 42 to 160 sqm. The building’s architecture will harmoniously integrate into the natural landscape of this part of Mokotów. The apartments will have spacious balconies, terraces, and gardens. Apartments on the top floor will gain extra space thanks to spiral stairs leading to private rooftop terraces.

And SGI’s activity in Siekierki does not end there. The developer is also preparing the boutique Kameralna investment, with sales starting in June 2025. The project will include 59 apartments, including spacious penthouses with mezzanines, double-height glazing, and private green rooftop terraces. Kameralna will provide 102 underground parking spaces, bicycle storage, and storage units. Residents will also have amenities such as a fitness area with a dry sauna and a cooling section.

The youngest residents will be able to enjoy a safe playground, naturally integrated into the surroundings. At the heart of the investment, a green recreational area with small architecture elements and relaxation spots is planned.

Quality first
